The Gentle Patriarch

Privacy Policy

Last updated 24 October 2026 · thegentlepatriarch.com

This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than skimmed, and it is short because we collect very little.

Who we are

This website and the products sold through it are published under the name Warren Astley, which is a pen name. The seller of record, and the company responsible for this website and for your purchase, is MICMAC FROM LAS VEGAS LLC, 1846 E Innovation Park Dr, Ste 100, Oro Valley, AZ 85755, United States.

You can reach us at support.nospam@thegentlepatriarch.com. We answer email. There is no phone line and no contact form.

What we collect

  • Your email address, if you give it to us, either to receive something free or when you buy.
  • Your first name, if you give it.
  • Your order details: what you bought, when, the amount, and the country used for tax.
  • Basic technical data from your visit: pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, browser and device type.
  • How you use these pages. We use Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymous session activity — scrolling, clicks and mouse movement — and builds aggregate heatmaps. We use it to find out where a page is confusing and to fix it. The contents of form fields are masked and never recorded, including your name, your email address and anything typed during checkout. The Cookie Policy explains how to opt out.

We never see your card details. Payment is handled entirely by our payment providers.

Why we use it

  • To deliver what you bought: we send your download links by email and keep a record that the email was delivered, opened and its links clicked, as proof of delivery if a payment is ever disputed.
  • To answer you when you write to us, and to handle a refund request.
  • If you start an order at checkout and leave your name and email, but the payment does not go through: to send you a short reminder about that order. At most two emails, each with a one-click unsubscribe.
  • To send you email about this project, if you asked for it.
  • If you ask for our free guide: to send it to you by email, followed by a few short emails over the next seven days. Those emails include a time-limited reader price on the books. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and if you buy, the series stops.
  • To tell you about material related to what you bought, or to what you showed an interest in — an update or an extension of a book you already have, a further book on the same subject, an audio or printed edition, or something else that belongs to the same problem. Nothing else.
  • To meet our tax and accounting obligations.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not rent, swap or share your email address with other publishers or advertisers. We do not send you other people's offers. If that ever changed, it would be announced before it happened, not buried in an updated policy.

There is one situation where your details would move, and it is set out in full below: if this project itself changes hands. That is a transfer of the whole business, not a sale of your data to somebody who wants to market to you, and the promises on this page follow you into it.

If this project is sold, transferred or closed

One day this project may be wound down, or sold or transferred to another person or company. We would rather tell you now what happens to your details than leave it unsaid.

  • If it is transferred, your details go with it, as part of the business. Whoever takes it on is bound by this policy as it stands on the day of the transfer. They cannot use your details in a way this page does not allow, and they cannot quietly widen it: a material change would be announced to you before it took effect, not published retroactively.
  • Any request you have already made — to unsubscribe, to be deleted, to see what we hold — carries over and is honoured by the new owner. You do not have to ask again.
  • If it is wound down instead, we email everyone who has bought, the download links keep working for at least thirty days so you can download anything you have not saved, and after that your personal details are deleted, except what we are legally required to keep for tax and accounting.
  • In either case you are told. We do not consider a change of owner something to discover by accident.

The commercial terms of your purchase are dealt with separately, under How long your files stay available and If this project changes hands in the Terms & Conditions.

Email about other material of ours

If you bought one of the books, or told us what you were interested in during a campaign, we may write to you about material of our own that relates to it: an update or an extension of a book you already have, a further book on the same subject, an audio edition, a printed edition, or another product that belongs to the same problem.

Three things are true of every one of those emails, and they do not change:

  • It comes from us and it is about our own material. Your name and address are used by us, under this policy, and by nobody else. We do not sell them, rent them, swap them or hand them to anyone for their own use.
  • You can leave whenever you want. There is a one-click unsubscribe at the bottom of every email, it works immediately, and you never have to explain why. You can also write to us and ask to be removed, and we will do it.
  • Leaving the list costs you nothing you paid for. Your access to anything you have already bought is unaffected, and so is your right to a refund inside the thirty days.

In Canada we follow CASL: buying from us gives us your consent to write to you for twenty-four months from that purchase, and after that we write only to people who have told us explicitly that they want us to.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of service providers, each handling only what it needs: a funnel and email platform that hosts these pages, stores your contact record and sends our email; payment providers that process your payment; advertising platforms (Meta) that tell us, in aggregate, whether an advert worked and let us show our adverts again to people who have visited this site; and Microsoft, which provides the Clarity analytics described above. Each acts under its own privacy terms.

Where your data is held

Your data may be stored and processed in the European Union and in the United States. Where a transfer takes place, it is made under the safeguards required by applicable law.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Your contact record is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which it is removed from the list and only the minimum needed for our records is retained.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop sending you email. Depending on your country you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, to receive your data in a portable form, and to complain to your data protection authority.

To use any of these, write to support.nospam@thegentlepatriarch.com from the address we hold. We do not require a form and we do not charge.

Email

Every email we send has a working one-click unsubscribe. It takes effect immediately. See the Anti-Spam Policy.

Cookies

Set out separately in the Cookie Policy.

Children

This site and these products are for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
